TORONTO — The Toronto Senior Citizens group met for its monthly meeting Sept. 18 at the Karaffa Recreation Center, with 73 members in attendance.
Chaplain Arlene Obertance-Rice gave the blessing, which was followed by a catered dinner of salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, rolls and apple crisp.
President John Livingstone called the meeting to order.
Obertance-Rice presented a reading entitled “Grandma’s Patchwork Quilt,” after which members recited the pledge. The secretary’s report was waived.
Pat Smith gave the treasurer’s report and Social Secretary Peggy Ziarko acknowledged the 20 members who were celebrating an anniversary or birthday in September.
The group welcomed back former member Joyce Burdine.
Tour Director Karen Krause noted the Riding the Rails West Virginia trip scheduled had filled up and that the Christmas show “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center on Dec. 13 is full as well.
Livingstone announced the October meeting will include collecting funds to support the Toronto Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 1 Christmas-with-a-Cop program.
In November, the group will collect non-perishable food items for Toronto’s Helping Hands Food Pantry. In December, there will be an annual cookie drive for Toronto’s first responders.
