Thursday Music Club to meet

WHEELING — The Thursday Music Club will be entertained by special guest the Rose Piano Duo at 11 a.m. Nov. 6 at the Char House on the Boulevard, located at 1055 E. Bethlehem Blvd. in Wheeling. The event will feature a unique blend of traditional Chinese instruments, including the xiao, pipa and guzheng. A special performance for piano four hands will take place, with both players on the piano simultaneously.

“The program will highlight the rich cultural heritage of Chinese music, paired with the duo’s signature piano artistry, offering an introduction to captivating and diverse musical experiences,” officials stated.

Hsing-Yi Tsai is a native of Taiwan. She earned her DMA program in piano performance at West Virginia University, where she served as a graduate teaching assistant, studying piano and chamber music.

Tsai earned an artist diploma and master of music in piano performance as a student of Wesley Roberts at Campbellsville University. She and her husband, John Rose, are the founders of the international music organization Guang Yin, meaning Light of Music, and perform and host music events internationally. Tsai serves as a professor of piano at Washington and Jefferson College and has a recording project of solo piano music in development.

John Alan Rose, an international prize winner pianist-composer, twice performed his piano music at Carnegie Hall. His compositions, including solo works, opera, piano concerto, violin concerto and cello concerto have been performed in North America, Europe and Asia.

Rose is the music director at St. John the Evangelist Church in Bellaire. Tsai and Rose came together to form the Rose Piano Duo in 2019. Their journey as a duo began with performances that fall.

In early 2020, they received first place at the WVU ChaMP Competition. They are grateful for the opportunity to share their love for music through performances and masterclasses at Campbellsville University and other venues throughout the state of Kentucky. The Thursday Music Club is accepting new members at any time. Annual dues are $20 a year.

To make a reservation, call Sandy Smith by Nov. 2 at (304) 242-1628. The cost of the luncheon will be $20. Greeters will be Linda Leithe and Candia Riddle.
