Support and awareness

Clockwise from left, parent volunteers Julie Wokutch and Kim Nielsen sold chances for a Chinese auction to Follansbee resident Tara Hornick, who was accompanied by her daughter, Gia, during a Brooke High School volleyball fundraiser on Sept. 30. The volleyball team played against Weir High School and Catholic Central High School. In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the team raised $1,819 for the Wheeling Cancer Center through the drawing, Chinese auction and other fundraisers. Loved ones who battled cancer were remembered during the game with a display of pink ribbons, while time was taken to recognize local cancer survivors in attendance. The Brooke High School Art Club participated by offering free face painting.
