Roundtable to talk Civil War U.S. Colored troops

WHEELING — The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable has announced its upcoming meeting.

The event is scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the St. Clairsville Public Library, located at 108 W. Main St.

Kelly Mezurek, historian and author, will be the afternoon’s guest lecturer.

Mezurek’s extensive research, along with her writings, focus on Black Civil War soldiers, sailors and veterans, according to officials with the roundtable.

The retired professor of humanities at Walsh University received her doctor of philosophy degree in 19th Century United States history from Kent State University.

Mezurek was appointed as the University of Virginia Nau Civil War fellow in 2022.

Among the positions of scholarly research fellows she has accepted are for the Kentucky Historical Society, the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, Constitution Day, the Ohio Academy of History, the Ohio Civil War 150, Ohio Humanities and Phi Alpha Theta.

Among her publications is “For Their Own Cause: The 27th United States Colored Troops.”

Roundtable officials stated this publication will be the primary subject of her presentation during the lecture.

The meeting and lecture are free for all guests. The event will be open to the public.
