Church to hold soup and sandwich sale

IRONDALE — Irondale Christ Community Church, located at 75 Grant St. in Irondale, will hold a soup and sandwich dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Dine in or carry out options will be available.

The church will feature homemade soups, including chicken noodle, vegetable and chili.

The cost is by a donation to the church only.

The public is welcome to attend.

Church to hold trunk-or-treat

STEUBENVILLE — Second Baptist Church, located at 717 Adams St., will hold a trunk-or-treat event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The community is invited to attend. Those wanting to attend should bring their own decorated vehicle and treats to the site, along with children who would like to participate.

STEUBENVILLE — Special Connections will hold its fourth-annual trunk-or-treat event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Jeffco Event Center, located at 256 John Scott Highway in Steubenville.

Co-organizer Mindy Aleksiejczyk said there will be plenty of fun for everyone, including individuals with or without intellectual and developmental needs, along with their families.

“We will once again have a trunk-or-treat, games and snacks, as well as a photo area,” Aleksiejczyk said. “Typically, we’ve had about 150 or more attend and it’s the same family fun we’ve always had.”

Participants can wear costumes and collect treats in the parking lot, enjoy sensory stations, play games and eat snacks inside the center.

Special Connections, which includes the Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Special Needs Parents of the Ohio Valley Support Group Facebook page and Crossroads Christian Church, sponsors events to promote inclusivity and awareness of people with developmental disabilities.

JVS to hold blood drive

BLOOMINGDALE — The health technologies program at the Jefferson County Vocational School will be the site of an upcoming American Red Cross blood drive.

The event is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28 inside the health technologies lab at the school, located at 1509 county Highway 22A in Bloomingdale.

Students will conduct the registration and canteen services, while medical personnel from the Red Cross will coordinate the blood collection, according to Tammy Sismondo, program instructor.

“We do take walk-ins and people can register online,” Sismondo said. “Students can sign up, as well.”

Sismondo stated three collections are taken throughout the school year, with two to take place this year and the final drive during the spring.

The health technologies program continues to work in cooperation with the American Red Cross to obtain blood contributions, which are taken to the Johnstown facility for processing.

Participants can streamline their donation and save time by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete a pre-donation questionnaire on the day of their appointment.

Donors who give blood between through Nov. 16 will receive a $10 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice, officials noted.

Church to present Jazz ensemble

WEIRTON — Cove Presbyterian Church in Weirton will present the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra Jazz Ensemble at 2 p.m. Nov. 1. Admission will be free.

The event is open to the public.

A free-will donation will be collected to benefit the Weirton Christian Center, according to officials.
