Soup and sandwich sale set

WELLSBURG — St. John Altar and Rosary will hold a soup and sandwich sale beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church hall, located at 1300 Charles St. in Wellsburg. The sale will continue until all of the food has been sold.

Soups on the menu will include bean, stuffed pepper and chicken noodle. Sandwiches will include Italian hoagies, chicken salad croissants and egg salad.

An assortment of desserts will be available. Patrons can dine in or carry out their orders. To place an order, call (304) 737-8051.

Class of ’59 to hold luncheon

STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Class of 1959 will hold its next monthly luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Froehlich’s Classic Corner, located at 501 Washington St. All are welcome to attend.

PERI members to meet

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Chapter of PERI will hold its monthly meeting at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Fiesta Room of Froehlich’s Classic Corner, located at 501 Washington St. in Steubenville.

The mission of PERI is the protect and preserve OPERS pension and benefits programs and advocate for changes that are in the best interest of PERI members, while providing value through communications and education of the membership through its districts, local chapters and external partnerships.

Dentistry to celebrate Freedom Day

WELLSBURG — Almost Heaven Family Dentistry will hold its fourth-annual Freedom Day Thursday.

The event is offers free dental care to veterans and active-duty military personnel at its Wellsburg office, located at 1512 Commerce St. This is a way for the business to thank veterans and servicemen and women, according to officials.

The event is part of a national effort to give back to the heroes who have given so much, officials commented. Freedom Day is one of the team’s most cherished events of the year, and reflects the practice’s commitment to faith and community. Officials explained the team is looking forward to the event following last year’s success.

“We laughed, cried, hustled, loved and gave it our all, all day,” said Dr. Olivia Mason, noting the dentistry served 28 veterans and provided $24,370 worth of free dental care. Thanks to local businesses and their generosity, the dentistry held a drawing, awarding 27 prizes valued at $2,971.

“We believe it’s important to show our gratitude in meaningful ways,” Mason said. “Freedom Day is our opportunity to serve those who’ve served us. We look forward to this every year.”

“Every smile we restore is a small way to say thank you,” added Dr. Tess Ferrari. “Our team is honored to stand behind our veterans and military members.”

Services will include dental exams, cleanings, fillings and other urgent dental care — all free of charge for veterans and active-duty military in the Wellsburg, Weirton and surrounding areas. Appointments are limited and must be scheduled in advance by calling (304) 737-2533. Proof of service is required.

Jefferson Democratic Women to meet

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Democratic Women will hold their next meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The meeting will take place at the Schiappa Library, located at 100 Mall Drive in Steubenville.

Soup and sweet sale Saturday

MINGO JUNCTION — Harmony Church of Mingo Junction will hold a soup and sweet sale from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, located at 2119 Commercial Ave. in Mingo Junction. Church to hold soup, dessert sale

EAST SPRINGFIELD — The woman’s group at Christ United Methodist Church in East Springfield will be selling baked good and soup from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Dorsey’s Carry Out, located at 8400 state Route 43 in East Springfield.

Soups will be sold by the quart and include: Broccoli and cheese, chili, vegetable beef, chicken noodle and bean and ham. Baked goods will feature pies, cakes, cookies and homemade bread.

Sunday tailgate party for K-9 unit

FOLLANSBEE — The Brooke County Deputy Sheriff’s Association and the Follansbee American Legion Auxiliary will hold a Tailgate for Tales fundraiser for the K-9 unit at the sheriff’s department.

The event will run from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Garibaldi Lodge, located at 670 Main St. in Follansbee. The cost will be $15 and includes a hot dog, hamburger and pasta salad. Attendees can watch free football games and order from the lodge’s cash bar. Additional food will be for sale, along with a 50/50 drawing and Chinese auction.

Brooke Senior Health Fair set

FOLLANSBEE — The Brooke County Senior Center, located at 948 Main St. in Follansbee, will hold a Senior Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16.

The free event will include flu shots, blood pressure screenings and information from health-related organizations, as well as prizes and food.
