FOLLANSBEE — Brooke County resident Heather Stone was named one of West Virginia’s Outstanding Democrats of the Year during the 40th-annual Outstanding Democrat Anniversary Celebration held during the Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner Celebration at Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center in Charleston Oct. 4.

Stone was selected by local county leaders for her hard work and dedication to the Democratic Party in Brooke County.

Karen Coria, a Putnam County Democratic leader and ceremony chair, indicated the award was established to recognize local party officials and volunteers whom Democratic leaders feel have contributed most to the party’s efforts.

“Our goal is to recognize these special people who have distinguished themselves by contributing to our society, by working within the framework of our democracy and political party system,” Coria said.

Joining State Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin and Coria in acknowledging the accomplishments of the honoree, were First Vice Chair Teresa Toriseva and this year’s guest speaker, Monroe Nichols, mayor of Tulsa.

The honoree received special recognition from party leaders along with a 40th-anniversary reception and photography session. “The efforts of the honoree demonstrates the importance of the work of every individual in affecting the outcome of local, state and national races. These people are the truly effective party workers,” Coria added.
