125 Years of GFWCWV

BETHANY — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs West Virginia Northern District held its 112th-annual Fall Convention Oct. 18 at Bethany Memorial Church.

Michelle Beihl, president of the Civic League of Warwood, presided. The convention was hosted by the Bethany Woman’s Club, as well as convention Chairman Helen Moren, Charlotte Chambers and Judy Pyle.

Beihl, along with Bethany Mayor Thom Furbee welcomed those in attendance to Bethany.

Jeannie Amidon, first vice president of the of Weirton Woman’s Club, led attendees in the inspiration, Pledge of Allegiance and the club collect.

Moren presented the preliminary credential report and the convention rules.

Lexie Hanket, treasurer of the Tuesday Arts of Moundsville, gave the financial report.

Moren presented the slate of officers for the 2026-28 club year.

The convention’s keynote speaker was State President Natalie Hinkle.

Helen Gibson of the Weirton Woman’s Club conducted a memorial service for deceased members.

The GFWCWV is celebrating its 125th anniversary. In honor of this event, clubs in attendance gave a short report on the historical events of their clubs.

Moren gave a report on domestic violence and sexual assault.

Sandy Smith, Tuesday Arts of Moundsville member Sandy Smith serves as the GFWCWV arts and crafts chairman. She noted members brought their arts and crafts projects to the convention for judging. Those receiving a first-place finish will be entered into the competition scheduled to take place during the state convention in March.

Hinkle installed the following officers during the convention: Moren, Bethany Woman’s Club, first vice president; Jamesie Beecroft, the Woman’s Club of Wheeling, second vice president; Jeanne Crinkey, Civic League of Warwood, secretary; and Jeanne Wolfe, Woman’s Club of McMechen, treasurer.

Amidon will be installed during the March convention. An invitation to the spring event that will be held in McMechen, was extended by Wolfe to those in attendance.
