Toronto Sunrise Seniors talk upcoming trip
TORONTO — Members of the Toronto Sunrise Seniors group met on Sept. 12 at the Karaffa Recreation Center on Dennis Way, where President Barbara Pritts opened the meeting.
Pritts welcomed those in attendance, including guests Judy Owings, Susan Kulstad and John and Dawn Love.
The meeting began with everyone holding a moment of silence in memory of Bill Kulstad.
Co-Chaplain Gloria Boley then provided the blessing over the afternoon’s meal, which featured a baked potato bar. The group thanked those serving on this month’s kitchen committee, including Mary Lou and Kenny Emery and Karen and Dale Martin.
Following dinner, members stood for the Pledge of Allegiance and heard the reading of the minutes from the Aug. 22 meeting, which were given by Secretary Karen Martin. Lynn Miller provided the financial report and Social Secretary Mary Ann Landerfield introduced Owings, who represented Our Place of Jefferson County, Inc.
Owings gave a presentation regarding the services that are offered by Our Place. She played an exercise bingo game with attendees, which was won by Pritts. She received a fall centerpiece as her gift. Two additional door prizes were provided by Owings and won by Dawn Love and Marsha McConnell. Pritts announced those who were celebrating a birthday in September, after which everyone sang happy birthday.
Those who will be serving on the kitchen committee in October will be David Devore, Ethel Stevens, Dave Trudick and Bonnie Wilson.
Five members were mentioned during the health report, to which cards will be sent.
Sandi Radvansky shared information regarding an upcoming bus trip to Oglebay Park during its Christmas light Display. The trip will take place on Dec. 2. Prior to visiting the display, those who wish to gamble will be dropped off at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack. Those who prefer to go shopping will be dropped off at the Ohio Valley Mall.
Three hours will be spent at these locations, after which attendees will board the bus and continue to Olive Garden in the Highlands for dinner. Once dinner is complete, the bus will proceed to the light display at Oglebay. The cost to participate on the trip, including dinner, is $35 for members and $45 for non-members.

Radvansky was recognized as the member of the month. She stated technology, along with her attitude, are the things that have changed the most during her lifetime.
An accomplishment she is most proud of is being the first in her family to graduate from college. She was presented with a gift certificate to celebrate her accomplishments.
The winners of the 50/50 drawing were Devore and Stevens.
Following announcements, brag time and the joke of the evening, the meeting was adjourned.
Members then played several rounds of bingo, with the winners being Laura Sheets, Betty Mossor, McConnell, Marlene Garrett, Devore, John Love, Phyllis Smith, Frank Marino, Mary Murphy and Miller.
The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. Friday at the Karaffa center. Anyone who is 55 or older and an Ohio resident is welcome to attend.
