Toronto Sunrise Seniors discuss bus trips
TORONTO — Members of the Toronto Sunrise Seniors gathered in the Karaffa Recreation Center commons area Aug. 22, where President Barbara Pritts opened the group’s monthly meeting.
Co-Chaplain Gloria Boley welcomed those in attenance and offered the blessing prior to the meal featuring hero sandwiches from Iggy’s restaurant.
“The members feel it is important to support our local businesses as much as possible” Pritts stated.
Following dinner, seniors thanked those who served on the kitchen committee, including Candi Murphy, Mary Murphy, Dora Oiler and Brenda Fetty. After reciting the pledge, Secretary Karen Martin conducted roll call and read the minutes of the previous meeting. Treasurer Lynn Miller gave the financial report.
Vice President Sandi Radvansky announced guests those attending a Dec. 2 bus trip can choose to gamble at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack or shop at the Ohio Valley Mall, with dinner to be at Olive Garden at the Highlands and a drive through Oglebay Park to see the Christmas lights display. A stop will be made for shopping. The cost is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. For information, contact Radvansky at (740) 317-9088.
Radvansky reminded members of the trip with the Toronto Senior Citizens group, a “Ride the Rails” trip Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. For information, contact Patty Smith at (330) 386-7309 or Karen Krause at (740) 264-5817.
Social Secretary Mary Anne Landerfield recognized those celebrating a birthday or anniversary in August, and announced guest speakers will attend the Sept. 12 and Sept. 26 meetings. Landerfield announced those serving on the kitchen committee in September, including Karen Martin, Dale Martin, Mary Lou Emery and Kenny Emery.
Jackie Collins was recognized as the member of the month and presented with a gift certificate.
The activity for the evening was a trivia game about the lesser-known state symbols, including the state insect, state gemstone and state’s rock n’ roll song. Answers for anyone wondering, are ladybug, flint and “Hang on Sloopy.”
Laura Sheets was the winner of the trivia game and awarded a gift certificate. Winners of the 50/50 drawing were Lucy Timko and Mary Jane Tottka. Following announcements, brag time and the joke of the evening, the meeting adjourned, after which members played bingo. Winners were: Mary Annn Cordier, Collins, Murphy, Patty Losey, Betty Mossor, David DeVore, Landerfield, Hank Sheets, Ethel Stevens, Bea Lytle, Tottka and Jerry Cornish. The next meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Karaffa Recreation Center. Any senior 55 years of age or older and who is a resident of Ohio is welcome to attend.
