October StoryWalk created just for dogs

STEUBENVILLE — Area residents can bring their furry friend to read a book at the Wintersville dog park throughout the month of October.

The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will be featuring a special StoryWalk specifically for dogs, with the postings found along the park’s fence line. Once the storybook has been completed, pets will be rewarded with an edible treat at the Schiappa Library.

The library announced additional events and activities that are scheduled at area branches throughout the week of Oct. 5-11.

Get ready for planes, trains and automobiles as the library showcases modes of transportation, including air, rail and road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11. The parking lot will house a variety of classic cars from the Ohio Valley Antique Car Club, while inside, the Greater Pittsburgh Aero Radio Control Society will have model planes on display. Those interested in train collecting will have an opportunity to meet with members of the Ohio River Northern Railway Club, who will have model trains displayed.

Children: Pick up a grab-and-go patchwork pumpkin craft beginning Oct. 10, while supplies last.

Adults: Take a deep dive into a book discussion of “The Wind in the Willows,” by Kenneth Grahams. The discussion will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 and Oct. 21. Register to join the group.

Adults: Listen to soft music and color your cares away by coloring fall pages designed specifically for adults. The activity will take place at 5 p.m. Oct. 6. Supplies will be provided. Registration is required.

Teens: Make and decorate a dog for Halloween using yarn at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9. Register to attend.

Children: Paint a spooky tree at 2 p.m. Oct. 11. Register to attend.

Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Branch (740) 314-4310

Adults: The library’s Thriller Book Club will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 to discuss “She’s Not Sorry,” by Mary Kubica. Call to join.

Schiappa Branch (740) 264-6166

Children: Beginning Oct. 6, stop by the children’s area to receive a pumpkin to carve or decorate. One pumpkin will be available, per family. Return the decorated pumpkin by Oct. 20 to have it displayed. Library staff will vote for their favorite, with the winner to be announced Oct. 29. A $50 Kroger gift card will be awarded. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Babygarten will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 11 and Oct. 25 for parents and children between the ages of birth and 2. Drop by for songs, books and rhymes.

Adults: Participate in a canvas swap at 5 p.m. Oct. 9. Call for details and to register.

Children: Paint a spooky tree at noon on Oct. 11. Register to attend.

Children: Tot Time will be held at 4 p.m. on Oct. 8 and Oct. 22 for parents and children between the ages of 2 and 4. Register for the hour of stories, songs and rhymes.
