Senior center planing trip
WEIRTON — The Greater Weirton Senior Center, located at 3425 Main St., is planning a bus trip to see the new musical version of “A Christmas Carol” on Nov. 29 at the Ohio Star Theater in Amish country.
The public is invited to attend. The cost of the trip runs between $105 to $115, according to organizers, who noted the price is dependent upon how many people are interested in participating.
The bus will leave the center at 9:30 a.m. and return at approximately 7 p.m.
“A Christmas Carol” will run from Nov. 29 through Dec. 16 at the theater.
The new musical retelling of the Charles Dickens’ holiday classic includes a Broadway-style score by Steve Parsons, with lyrics by John Popa, who “breathes new life into this beloved tale.”
Officials noted this new adaption is “more epic, magical and joyous than the story of Christmas redemption you thought you knew.”

Salvation Army Volunteer Day set
WEIRTON — The Salvation Army Weirton Corps will hold its Volunteer Day beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. The event will continue until 8 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist in helping to bale all of the donated clothing that can not fit into the thrift store at this time, according to organizers.
Tasks will include sorting clothing send out, with no hanging involved. Periodically, clothing is sold in bales to cloth graders, who re-sort materials and make items available for other markets. Bales are priced per pound, which generates funds for the Salvation Army’s community programs.
Members of the Kiwanis Club of Weirton, Weir High School Key Club, Weirton Heights Rotary Club, Madonna High School Interact Club, Weirton Rotary Club and Salvation Army Advisory Board will be among those assisting throughout the day.
No sign-ups are required. Volunteers can work at any time, for however long they have available, officials noted. In addition, the Salvation Army is in need of two part-time workers and volunteers for its thrift store. For information, call the Salvation Army at (304) 748-4310.
