JVS to hold car show

BLOOMINGDALE — The Jefferson County Vocational School will hold a car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the school parking lot to benefit the auto service technology program.

Wheels of all kinds are invited to attend the event being organized by Principal Heather Hoover and AST instructor Ron Reasoner.

Proceeds will support a field trip to an automobile factory in the spring.

Hoover said attendees will check in and register as they enter the campus and pay a $10 fee. The first 25 vehicles will receive commemorative JVS 50th anniversary dash plaques. Exhibits will not be judged.

The public is invited to view the displays and enjoy food, music and fundraisers throughout the day.

“We’re including tractors, motorcycles and classic cars,” Hoover said. “There will be music, a concession stand, door prizes, basket drawings and a 50/50 drawing.”

She said that if successful, officials hope to make the show a regular activity.

“We hope to make it an annual event, and each year we’ll increase the number of dash plaques being distributed,” Hoover commented.

Reasoner said the purpose of the event is to take students to a Subaru assembly plant in Lafayette, Ind., where they can view the process firsthand.

“We want to inspire them about the auto industry outside of what we do here,” Reasoner said. “Hopefully we can generate a few thousand dollars for a trip to Indiana next March. We previously went in 2019 before COVID. Only a few manufacturers offer plant tours, with Subaru being one of them.”

He said officials have reached out to local car clubs, advertised with posters and received donations for the drawings, including vehicle care kits from NAPA and Harbor Freight.

“This year is also the 50th anniversary of the JVS, and all of the participants pay $10 to showcase their cars,” Reasoner concluded. “Each year, we will try to grow the show and add to the scheme and make sure it is successful. We are hoping for a big showing.”
