Seven Ranges to meet today
WINTERSVILLE — The Seven Ranges Joint Fire District will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. today at the 911 building, located on Airport Drive in Wintersville.
Bergholz Museum open Thursday
BERGHOLZ — The Bergholz Area Museum will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday during the Bergholz Community Foundation Community Celebration.
The museum’s permanent collection includes memorabilia of the town, schools, businesses and mines.
The museum has a large collection of Springfield High School class pictures and other SHS items available for viewing. The museum is located at 268 Second St., across from the town parking lot. Admission is free.
Brilliant to hold 9/11 service
BRILLIANT — The Brilliant American Legion Post 573 is asking area residents to join in honoring the area’s local police and fire and rescue personnel, paying tribute to veterans, first responders and Americans who died as a result of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
The public is invited to attend the remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Liberty Corners Memorial, located next to the Brilliant American Legion Post at 210 Market St. in Brilliant. The guest speaker will be American Legion Department of Ohio Commander Stan Oren.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Legion Hall.
Retirees to meet Thursday
STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville City Schools Retirees met for lunch Aug. 14 at Bistro 303 in Weirton, with those in attendance stating everyone had a nice time during the luncheon. In addition to a meal, get-well and sympathy cards were signed and sent to those in need.
The first collection was taken toward the group’s annual Christmas charity, which helps needy adults. A collection will continue to be taken every month during the luncheons through December. Money can be sent to Linda Holub or Becky Bryan for those unable to attend a luncheon.
The group’s next get-together will be Thursday at the Ville.
For anyone who has not received a phone call or text, you are permitted to arrive at noon, organizers stated.
Center to hold dinner Thursday
EAST SPRINGFIELD — The East Springfield Community Center will hold its monthly fundraising dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. The event will be held at the center, located on county Road 39 next to the firehouse. All members of the public are invited to attend. The menu will consist of baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable, bread, dessert and a drink for the cost of $12 per meal.

McDonald’s to donate Thursday
STEUBENVILLE — McDonald’s restaurants in the Tri-State Area will raise funds for local first responders and veteran organizations on Thursday. During the 9/11 Digital Fundraiser, nearly 125 organizations across the region will earn 10 percent of all sales purchased through the McDonald’s app.
This year marks the first time McDonald’s restaurants will hold such an event. The fundraiser is a way to support local first responders and veterans in the communities they serve. Each locally-owned McDonald’s restaurant has chosen an organization in its community to donate 10 percent of all digital sales on Thursday. Each identified organization will receive a minimum of $250.
Gus’s Goodies open house set
WEIRTON — Gus’s Goodies will celebrate its 90th anniversary Sept. 20 with an open house at the bakery. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Weirton Mayor Dean Harris will be in attendance at 11 a.m. for a presentation. The community is welcome to attend.
Legion to hold breakfast
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 33 will hold a breakfast from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Legion Hall, located at 808 N. Fifth St.
The menu will consist of scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries and pancakes.
Coffee and tea wil be served. Meals will be $8 each. Proceeds will go toward the auxiliary’s annual Christmas celebration for veterans residing in area nursing homes. Members of the public are invited to attend the breakfast.
Events to help kidney disease
WINTERSVILLE — The local nonprofit Let’s Fight Together will be raising money for kidney disease through two upcoming events, according to organizers.
A large yard sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 at 1050 Bantam Ridge Road in Wintersville. The nonprofit will be on hand to sell drawing tickets to help support those battling the disease.
A cornhole tournament is scheduled at 4 p.m. Sept. 21 at the former Pit Stop restaurant, located on Annaplois Road in Bloomingdale. Registration will begin at 3 p.m. The cost will be $10 per person. There will be a blind draw and double elimination, according to organizers. The event is BYOB and will include trophies, drawings and prizes. Barbecued ham and hotdogs will be available for a donation. Disc jockey Lee Lambert will provide the music.
