PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Toronto native Betty G. Miller celebrated her 104th birthday with approximately 35 family members Wednesday. A longtime Toronto resident, Miller has lived with her son, Mark, and his wife, Amanda, in Peachtree City, Ga., for the last several years.
She was married to her husband, Ralph Miller, a Toronto police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1978, for 46 years. Ralph served in the Army during World War II. Betty lived with him in Colorado Springs, Colo., as well as the other places he was stationed following the war.
Betty was active in Toronto organizations, including the American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary and the Toronto Eagles Lodge Auxiliary, serving as president of both. She was a member of the Catholic Woman’s Club, where she served as president.
Betty worked as a cook at the American Legion Post, where she was known for her steaks, and at the Toronto Bandfathers Camp. In addition to Mark, she and Ralph had two sons, Ralph Jr. and David, both deceased. Betty has two grandsons, Ryan and Jeremy; and a grandson, J.D.
She enjoys the music of Rod Stewart and watching “Blue Bloods.” She attributes her longevity to doughnuts and chocolate. The Fayetteville County Commission recently adopted a proclamation honoring her.
