STEUBENVILLE — Approximately 150 students entering kindergarten through eighth grade participated in this year’s Sycamore Summer Fun Camp, which was held at the Sycamore Youth Center Aug. 4-8.
The free camp offered a week of faith, fun and learning, featuring a blend of Bible teachings, STEM activities, arts and crafts and outdoor recreation.
Bible instructor Roy Arbogast led lessons on the parables of Jesus; Rebekah Cohen Morris and Marie Hosdil taught on the life of Joseph from the Old Testament — inspiring campers with stories of perseverance, faith and God’s guidance.
Supported by 53 volunteers, the camp provided students with a safe, uplifting space to grow spiritually and socially. The week concluded with the Sycamore and Aim Women’s Center Summer Block Party, an event that drew more than 400 attendees. The day included music, food, games and community celebration.
“This camp is about more than keeping kids busy — it’s about equipping them with faith, life skills and a sense of belonging,” stated Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of Sycamore. “We are blessed to see so many children impacted in such a positive way.”
Cohen Morris, executive director of Aim, not only taught during the camp, but partnered with Bauman to co-host the block party.
“It’s amazing to see our community come together in joy and unity,” she commented. “When organizations work side-by-side, we can reach more families and make a greater impact for Christ.”
Looking ahead, Sycamore will launch its fall program in September, offering 64 free after-school classes for children in the Steubenville City School district. Classes will take place Monday through Friday, offering subjects that range from music and art to fitness, technology and Bible studies.
