Wintersville resident Blair Allison, a 10-year member of the Wildwood Critters 4-H Club, will be among those competing in the swine show portion of the 154th-annual Jefferson County Fair, which runs through Sunday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Smithfield. The show will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at the Livestock Arena, and is one of the biggest draws of the fair on the livestock side of the event, according to officials. Allison, who has shone for seven years, will show two of her six pigs, Bullseye and Boss. She hopes to earn the title of grand champion, having previously won reserve champion twice, among her other wins, including fifth overall. The swine event will begin with the showmanship portion, followed by the show. Grand and reserve champions will be selected around 8 p.m. This event is one of many taking place this week by those involved in Jefferson County 4-H Clubs, FFA organizations and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, who have various projects on display at the fair. Allison, along with those whose animals were at the fairgrounds Monday, spent time ensuring their animals were kept as cool and comfortable as possible due to the hot temperatures.
