Scio ready for 91st-annual Summer Fest
SCIO — “Serving, Shining, Scrambling, Scenery.” That is the theme for the 91st-annual Scio Summer Fest, scheduled for Aug. 21-24 in the Scio firehouse and former school parking lots.
The theme is to recognize the 65 years of service from the Scio Dining Fork Ruritan Club, the 40 years for the Scio Scramble 5K, the 40 years shining in the annual Show and Shine Car Show, and 25 years of the Conotton Creek Trail scenery, organizers noted.
Numerous events and entertainment will be offered. This year’s festival was moved back two weeks in order to “accommodate a new and better amusement ride company,” according to officials.
Because school will have begun at the start of the event, the venue will have a slightly different format.
The festival will operate from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 21; from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 22; from noon to 11 p.m. Aug. 23; and from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 24.
The summer fest kicks off with the 32nd-annual Kids One-Mile Fun Run/Family Fun Walk and the 40th-annual Scio Scramble 5K Race/Walk. To register, visit runsignup.com.
Advance wristbands are on sale through noon on Aug. 20 at the cost of $15, with bands selling for $20 at the event. To purchase an advance wristband, visit the Restaurant, B&F Dairy Bar, Pemmi’s Pizza or the Scio American Legion. Children must be 36 inches or taller to ride. This year’s eight rides will be provided by Bigtop’s Magic Midway.

Categories include: Youngest pet or child with pet, oldest pet or handler, smallest dogs, largest dogs, cutest kitty, smallest pet, farm animal, most unusual, best costume and best trick or trained. Cash prizes will be awarded, along with a second place and grand prize, overall. The show is sponsored by Koch Funeral Home and the Block O Sports Bar.
