International Seniors talk upcoming trips
WEIRTON — The International Seniors Club met Aug. 12 at Undo’s restaurant in Weirton. Patty Coppa led the prayer and blessing, while Gabriel Arlia led the Pledge of Allegiance. Members sang “God Bless America,” after which a buffet-styled dinner was enjoyed.
President Regina Truax introduced guests Jan Shoup and Carla Stevens, and welcomed back Donna Filipowski. Secretary Rita Orler read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were approved. Treasurer Norma Henson gave the treasurer’s report, which was approved and filed for audit.
Truax announced the next meeting scheduled for Sept. 9 will include guest speaker Jennifer Stevens.
The president mentioned 2026 dues will be collected in October, November and December.
The club sang happy birthday to those celebrating a birthday in August. Members included: JoAnn Kerr, Dolores LaRosa, Carl Truax, Terry Ramsey, Marlene Dunn and Filipowski. Members then sang happy anniversary to Regina and Carl Truax, who celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Barbara Purks announced get-well cards have been sent to Michael Runkel, Dino and Pat Rossi, Mary Ellen Groves and Filpowski. Liz Beecroft read the joke of the day.
The following bus tours were announced: Rock and Roll Doo Wop No. 27, Capitol Theater, Wheeling, Oct. 4; Oglebay Festival of Lights and dinner at Wilson Lodge, Wheeling, Nov. 14; Christmas in New York City, Nov. 17-20; and Motown Christmas, Capitol Theater, Wheeling, Dec. 13. The 50/50 drawing was won by Laura Mamula. Undo’s gift certificates were won by Filipowski and Tony LaRosa. Wal-Mart gift cards were won by Faye Jones, Carl Truax and Norma Henson. Members played a card game, with prizes being awarded to a member at each table. Additional winners were Linda Aloi, Barb Cerra, Joyce Dobbs and George Pohlemen.
