Special ceremony set at Bethany

BETHANY — A matriculation ceremony for the Class of 2029 at Bethany College will be held at 5 p.m. today.

The college’s new students will take their first steps through the Oglebay Gates, which is a symbolic procession marking the beginning of their journey at Bethany. The tradition is ingrained in its college’s history, according to officials, who stated students will not walk through the gates again until their graduation day.

The ceremony will conclude in Commencement Hall with the signing of the Book of Matriculation, a ritual dating back to the late 1800s.

Library to show ‘Drop’

WELLSBURG — The Follansbee Library will show the PG-13 movie “Drop,” at noon on Friday. Those attending are permitted to bring a lunch, with popcorn and water provided.

The date is interrupted by a series of anonymous drops to her phone, showing a masked intruder in her home and ordering her to follow a series of instructions. If she does not do as told, her loved ones will die. Her tormentor’s directive is to kill her date.

Those interested in attending can reserve a seat by calling the library at (304) 527-0860 or visiting brookecountylibs.org/events.
