Sycamore accepting after-school sign-ups

STEUBENVILLE — Since its inception, the Sycamore Youth Center has been a place to grow in faith, confidence and creativity.
And a new school year means another opportunity for local students to enroll in the center’s after-school enrichment program.
Registrations are now being accepted for the nonprofit’s 2025 fall and winter program, which will run from Sept. 22 through Dec. 4.
The classes are open to all students in grades first through 12th attending schools in Steubenville, according to Bobbyjon Bauman, Sycamore’s executive director.
There will be 64 classes offered free of charge, with each designed to build life skills, encourage creativity and nurture students’ faith.
Classes are held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional weekend opportunities will be available.
Free transportation will be provided to the center from Steubenville elementary schools and Harding Middle School.
“We’re continually grateful for the opportunity to offer faith-based enrichment alongside life skills and creative expression,” Bauman said. “When students encounter God’s love and purpose through our programming, it truly transforms their lives.”
Weekly class highlights for Monday for those in fifth and sixth grade, include: Boys and girls Bible study, cross-stitch and crochet, board games and chess, Arise and Shine, cooking, automotive skills, cosmetology, basketball skills, computer lab, pyrography/wood burning, hip-hop and jazz dance, entrepreneurship and ballet. Evening programs include classical choir for grades 3-12, and international folk dancing for grades 3-8.
Tuesday highlights serving grades first through fourth, include: Sonshine Bible Club, martial arts, contemporary/jazz dance, Scout Reach, sewing, art, cooking, storytime, computer lab, indoor/outdoor games and a community service class for grades 5-12.
Wednesday highlights for those in grades third and fourth, include: Sonshine Bible Club, worship dance, geography, chess, art, cool kid code, ceramics, cooking, coding, storytime and indoor/outdoor games. An evening program being offered is recreational international folk dancing for fifth-graders through adults.
Thursday highlights for seventh- through 12th-graders, include: Boys and girls Bible study, entrepreneurship, Spanish, art, hip-hop dance, cosmetology, cooking, tumbling, basketball skills, orchestra, Arise & Shine, musical theater for young performers and advanced international folk dancing for freshmen through seniors.
Friday highlights for first and second graders, include: Sonshine Bible Club, cooking, art, storytime, Lego class, ballet, computer lab and indoor/outdoor games.
On Saturdays, all ages are welcome to take part in the following classes: Dips and Dives Square Dance Night, high school swing dance and the Dream Big Band, providing free instrument lessons.
“The center’s mission is to offer more than just after-school activities,” Bauman concluded. “Students engage in Bible-based studies, mentorship and skill-building experiences that inspire them to grow into confident young leaders.”
