International convention

Lt. Gov. Mary Kay Olashuk, left, of Division 18 of the Capital District of Kiwanis International, met with Lee Kuan Yung, the 2024-25 international president of the Malaysia District, during the Kiwanis International Convention held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh June 25-28. This year’s theme was “Forge the Future,” and featured 1,400 delegates in attendance. During the annual meeting, the following were elected: Michael Mulhaul, New Jersey District, president; Hope Markes, Eastern Canada and Caribbean District, president-elect; and Cathy Szymanski, Pennsylvania District, vice president. The much-anticipated vote on an amendment to allow remote voting at the conventions failed, having not received the two-thirds majority needed for passage. The amendment was proposed by the Capital District, but was not endorsed by Kiwanis International, officials noted. It has been presented several times in recent years without success. Olashuk was recently elected to a three-year term as a trustee of the Capital District. Next year’s international convention will be held in Manila, Philippines, June 25-27. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.
