Food Truck Festival set
WEIRTON — Members of the Class of 2027 at Weir High School have been preparing for this weekend since November.
The incoming juniors have spent many months planning and researching exactly how to give the community a day they will remember.
And on Saturday, their ideas will come to fruition.
The sixth-annual Weirton Food Truck Festival will take place from noon to 9 a.m. Saturday at the Weirton Event Center, located at 3322 E. St. in Weirton.
The festival will be held rain or shine, according to organizers.
The event is handed down from class to class, noted organizer T.J. Haught, who explained the festival helps juniors get a start at covering the costs of their senior prom and other senior class activities.
“The idea behind this event is to raise money, but to do it in a way that brings something to the whole community,” Haught stated. “We have more than 20 vendors who will sell locally-made goods, have live music all day, a dunk tank, inflatables, face painting, a 50/50 drawing and of course, amazing food trucks.”
There will also be a mobile rage room, designed for individuals to have a safe and controlled environment in which to release their anger by smashing objects and venting their emotions.
A variety of food trucks will be on site to satisfy the cravings of everyone, Haught noted.
“This event wouldn’t be possible without the help of the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city of Weirton and all of our great sponsors,” Haught continued. “This event has become a huge summer tradition for our area. We can’t wait to see everyone come down Saturday and soak up the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of this year’s event.”
The students have an elected parent committee known as the Weir High School Class of 2027 Parent Group.
Once the incoming juniors organize and plan the event, they reach out to parents and other students to help pull everything together, Haught noted.
“There is a massive amount of planning and organizing for an event like this,” he exclaimed, saying classes usually try to keep the number of food trucks anywhere between 10 and 12, in order for all of the participants to be successful.
The festival can possibly use an additional one or two trucks for Saturday’s event, Haught concluded.
Any food trucks that are interested in participating should be aware the cost is $250 per truck, and a permit must be obtained from the Hancock County Health Department.
Potential food trucks can reach out to the group through its Facebook page to make the request. The group is listed under 2025 Weirton Food Truck Festival.
