Toronto to hold blood drive

TORONTO — Crossroads North River Church will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in the church sanctuary, located at 207 North River Ave. in Toronto.

OV BPW to host summer social

STEUBENVILLE — A Lemoncello Summer Social will be hosted by the Ohio Valley Business and Professional Women beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern, located at 350 S. Hollywood Blvd. in Steubenville.

The social will last until 7:30 p.m., according to organizers, who noted club members, guests and professional women throughout the Ohio Valley are invited to gather for an informal event that will involve a chance to “sip, snack and socialize” with one another.

Participants will enjoy a relaxed evening outdoors on the restaurant’s patio, where light bites will be served and a cash bar will be available.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a friend who will have an opportunity to connect with current members, learning of the group’s plans for the upcoming new meeting year.

“This is a great opportunity for professionals to unwind, meet new people and get a glimpse of the programs and initiatives OV BPW has in store,” stated the organization’s leaders.

The OV BPW is dedicated to promoting the interests of working women through networking, mentorship, advocacy and community engagement initiatives.

JCVA to hold picnic

SMITHFIELD — The Jefferson County Veterans Association will hold its annual free picnic for veterans and active military members from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 26 at shelters 1, 2 and 3 in Friendship Park.

Organizers announced guests will help in celebrating the JCVA’s 30th anniversary, as well as the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Thomas Graham will perform the singing of the national anthem, and patriotic music will be performed by the Tri-State Community Band.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, desserts and cold beverages will be served.

Enjoy the camaraderie of fellow veterans, family and friends throughout the afternoon and enter into a drawing where the winner will receive three commemorative medallions at 3:30 p.m.

The medallions are depicted to recognize the Victory in Europe, the Victory in Japan and celebrating the end of the war.

Brooke senior picnic set for Thursday

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Committee on Aging will hold its annual picnic for Brooke County seniors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.

The cost will be $5 per person.

Museum to hold ice cream social

TORONTO — In observance of National Ice Cream Day, the Historical Society of Toronto will hold an ice cream social from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at its Main Street Museum, located inside the Karaffa Recreation Center on Dennis Way.

The museum will have quilts and needlepoint on display. Each work has a story pertaining to its ties to the city, according to museum officials.

South Side High reunion set

HOOKSTOWN, Pa. — Those who attended South Side School in Hookstown, Pa., between the years 1957 and 1994, are invited to attend a multi-class reunion, scheduled from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Hookstown Grange Fairgrounds.

This will be the first of what organizers hope to be many more reunions, officials commented.

All graduates, along with their spouse or significant other, are invited to attend the event.

The cost will be $10 per person if paid by July 31. Payment will cover the cost of the rental, water and other necessities for the day.

Organizers are looking for volunteers from each class to assist during the event.

Food trucks will be on site between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Attendees can purchase their own food from the trucks, however, water will be provided through the price of admission.

Guests are permitted to bring their own snacks, food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well. Classmates can bring their own tent or camp chair.

Music will be provided during the evening.

Dungeons and Dragons class offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold a Dungeons and Dragons class for middle- and high-school students from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Classes will continue at the same time each Tuesday, according to library officials.

The classes are taught by Daniel Melching and David Nixon, who will bring with them everything that is needed for a game.

Registration is not required.
