Women’s outdoor weekend set

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will host the 11th-annual Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure Weekend. The three-day event will be held Sept. 12-14 at Deer Creek State Park in Mount Sterling. The weekend is designed to introduce women to a wide variety of outdoor activities in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment, officials stated. Those who are 16 and older can try their hand at boating, fishing, shooting sports and nature programming. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

“This is one of our favorite events each year,” stated Mary Mertz, director of ODNR. “It’s always exciting to watch participants light up as they try something new — whether it’s paddling a kayak, casting a line or learning about Ohio’s natural world. We’ve seen how this weekend creates lasting memories and strong friendships. It’s not just about outdoor skills — it’s about community, confidence and having fun together.”

The weekend offers hands-on instruction and sessions led by ODNR professionals, such as the Division of Parks and Watercraft, the Division of Forestry and the Division of Wildlife. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of sessions, including paddling, hiking, gun basics and range shooting, archery, art and nature exploration. Accommodations for the weekend will be at Deer Creek State Park Lodge and Conference Center, located in Mount Sterling in Pickaway County. The cost for the weekend is $395 per person, based on double occupancy. The fee includes lodging, activity sessions, meals, transportation between venues and evening activities.
