Community center to hold dinner

EAST SPRINGFIELD — The East Springfield Community and Recreation Center will hold its monthly dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The center, located on county Road 39 next to the firehouse, will offer a menu consisting of baked chicken and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, bread, dessert and a drink for $12.

Dine-in or carryout options will be available. To place a carryout order, call (740) 543-3700.

Free bag of fries at Sheetz

ALTOONA, Pa. — The restaurant and convenience chain, Sheetz, will celebrate National French Fry Day by giving away one free bag of fries to customers through its Sheetz app. The special offer will be available beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday. The promotion will be valid for customers at all Sheetz locations, who will need to add the fries to their order under the “offerz” tab. The offer is limited to a single redemption per customer and applies exclusively to the “bag” size offer. To download the app, visit sheetz.com/app.

Museum open house set for Sunday

RICHMOND — The Crew House Museum, located at 34 W. Main St. in Richmond, will hold its next open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Hosted by the Richmond Community Historical Society, the event is free, although donations are appreciated.

The museum, which once served as home to the Crew family for 146 years, will mark its 200th anniversary next year. Visitors can browse town memorabilia, along with a second floor dedicated to Jefferson Union High School memorabilia. This area is of interest to those who attended JUHS, as they have access to the floor for reunion plans.

Other Sunday open houses are set from noon to 4 p.m. on July 27, Aug. 10 and Aug. 24.

This year marks the historical society’s 50th anniversary, its theme being “50 Years of History in our Community.” Comprised of officers John Jones, president; Marge Andres, vice president; Sandy Judy, secretary; and Wendy Byers, treasurer, the society will host its annual Quaker Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 in the area of the museum. The event will feature food, live entertainment and vendors.

The historical society’s next meeting will be held at 7 p.m July 22 at the museum. Anyone is welcome to attend or become a member. Annual dues are $5. Lifetime membership is $50. JCVA to hold picnic

SMITHFIELD — The Jefferson County Veterans Association will hold its annual free picnic for veterans and active military members from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 26 at shelters 1, 2 and 3 in Friendship Park.

Organizers announced guests will help in celebrating the JCVA’s 30th anniversary, as well as the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Thomas Graham will perform the singing of the national anthem, and patriotic music will be performed by the Tri-State Community Band.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, desserts and cold beverages will be served.

Enjoy the camaraderie of fellow veterans, family and friends throughout the afternoon and enter into a drawing where the winner will receive three commemorative medallions at 3:30 p.m.

The medallions are depicted to recognize the Victory in Europe, the Victory in Japan and celebrating the end of the war.
