25-year club prepares for annual picnic

The Weirton Steel 25-Year Club will hold its annual summer picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Serbian Picnic Grounds in Weirton. The club, which has been in existence since 1946, is a special reunion that was created for those who worked at Weirton Steel. Today, it is something special held for the retirees of the plant. More than 500 people attended last year’s picnic, officials noted. The club always makes an attempt to give back to the community, donating to nonprofit organizations such as the Salvation Army, the Weirton Community Bread Basket and to assist with Weirton’s Christmas lights. The club is reliant on contributions and donations in order to make these annual picnics possible. Among this year’s sponsors are First Choice America Credit Union and Tudor’s Biscuit World in Weirton. Members of the club include, from left, front, J.R. Warrick, President Ron Baker, Paul Barnabei and Ray Gajtka; and back, Bill Stone, Paul Rusinovic, Pete Kallos and Eli Dragisich.
