Wells High grads reunite

Those who graduated in the Class of 1960 from the former Wells High School in Newell, celebrated their 65th high school reunion May 24 at the Gatsby Restaurant at the Mountaineer Casino Resort. Nine of the 37 graduates attended the event, along with five of their spouses and a few guests. A memory table was set up for the 15 classmates who have died since graduating. Classmates reflected on the time when Principal Harold Gregory of Chester had died in April, 1960. Following his death, Chester resident Russell Slack was promoted to the principal’s position for the remainder of the school year. Slack would remain principal until Wells was moved and became a part of Oak Glen High School. Classmates traveled from as far away as Florida to attend the reunion. The reunion was organized by classmate Anna Mae Monroe Ogden. Those taking part in the reunion included, from left, front, Barbara Ulbright Troutman, Susan Derda Graham and Carolyn Brenneman Keech; and back, Tom Ogden, Ogden, Bob Stine, Karl “Keith” Mills, Kenny Arnott and Ronald Dunlevy.
