Toronto seniors enjoy a karaoke meeting
TORONTO — The Toronto Senior Citizens group met for its monthly meeting June 18 at the Karaffa Recreation Center.
Chaplain Arlene Obertance-Rice provided the blessing prior to a catered dinner consisting of baked chicken, sweet corn, pasta, salad and an assortment of pies.
Obertance-Rice gave a special reading in honor of Fathers’ Day and Flag Day. Members joined in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by President John Livingstone calling on officers for their reports.
Secretary Joyce Zimmerman reported on the minutes from the March meeting and Treasurer Patty Smith gave the financial report.
Social Secretary Peggy Ziarko thanked those serving on this month’s kitchen committee. She noted those celebrating a birthday or a wedding anniversary during the month of May.
Ziarko noted those members who are sick or in the hospital.
Under new business, a report was given about the annual audit that was conducted by Smith, Karen Krause and Mary Scott.
The group welcomed new members Janine Keenan and Jan Yeaman, which brought the total membership to 113.
The August meeting will feature a Chinese theme, including Chinese decorations and a Chinese auction as a fundraising event.
Following the meeting, a 50/50 drawing was held. The winner of $121 was Dorothy Hauss.
The winner of a basket drawing was Lisa Salas.
There were 10 members who were winners of door prizes.
Karaoke entertainment for the evening was provided by disc jockey Tim Denny, along with Ziarko.
Several members joined in singing their favorite songs, along with participating in some line dancing.
The next meeting will be held at 4 p.m. July 17.
Those interested in joining the group must be 55 years of age and living in the surrounding Ohio area.
