Funseekers lower requirement age to 50
WEIRTON — Funseekers members met May 7 at Undo’s Restaurant in Weirton. President Cathy DiBenedetto called the meeting to order and introduced the guests for the evening, including Flora Antigo, Margie Mercer and Debbie Schafer.
DiBenedetto noted those celebrating a May birthday or anniversary and acknowledged members who are in need of a get-well card, including Dino Rossi, Barbara Jean Losey and Judy Bickler. Members announced the death of Kathy Cole, and observed a moment of reflection.
Joann Bugin led the opening with a Memorial Day reading, followed by the reciting of the pledge and singing of “God Bless America.” A blessing was held prior to members enjoying a buffet dinner.
The 40 members attending were then entertained by Jack Giacomel.
The treasurer’s report and secretary’s report were read and approved.
The business meeting opened with DiBenedetto reminding members the current officers are completing their terms in September.
The club will need new members to step up and run for the positions of president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.
Following a discussion, members voted to hold their annual picnic at Undo’s, which will feature a luau-style event. A board meeting will be scheduled to finalize the plans. DiBenedetto asked for volunteers to serve on the luau committee.
A discussion concerning recruiting new members resulted in amending the by-laws to lower the age of membership to 50. A motion was made by Marilyn Izzy and seconded by Lee Lewis. The motion passed by a show of hands. Tour director Regina Truax reviewed the group’s upcoming bus trips and tours, which include: The Pittsburgh Pirates vs the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh, June 20; Sugar Creek, June 27; “Sister Act” at Lincoln Park, June 29; Hartville Acres, July 18; Everett Railroad-Western Maryland train trip, July 23-25; Seneca Resort and Casino, sold out, Sept. 24-26; Christmas in New York, the Rockettes, Nov. 17-20; and Oglebay Festival of Lights, Nov. 21.
The 50/50 drawing was won by Marlene Dunn. Door prizes were awarded to Barb Lewis, Truax, Donna Balzano, Carl Truax, Carol Wisnewski, Larry Purks, Larry Bauer, Lee Lewis, Jean Dalfanzo and Chuck Bugin. Undo’s gift certificates were won by Diane Sagan and George Pohlman.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday at Undo’s. The meeting will be a bingo game night with cash prizes. Nominations for new officers will be discussed.
