Buckeye Local presents scholarships to seniors

CONNORVILLE — Buckeye Local High School students received honors and an estimated $150,000 in scholarships during the annual Senior Awards assembly held May 8. Among the recipients were: Lydia Boyd, Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship, $500; Adam Blackwell, Addy Bonomo and Boyd, John F. Becca Memorial Scholarship, $500 each; and Landon Durbin, Brice Kelley, Alex McDiffitt, Koltn Roush and Leven Sawko, Belmont College Trustees Scholarships, full tuition.

Madison Roset and Andrew Jones received the Buckeye Local Junior Panthers Scholarship for $500 each; Kalyn Young, the Leon Berze Memorial Scholarship, $500; Gavin Edgell, McDiffitt and Tatum Walker, the Brilliant American Legion Post 573 Scholarship, $1,000 each; Addie Erwin, the Brilliant American Legion Auxiliary Post 573 Scholarship, $500; and Edgell, Aidin Hosenfeld and Emma McHugh, the Brilliant Lions Club Scholarship, $750 each.

Roset was the recipient of the Buckeye Local Board of Education Scholarship for $500; Boyd, the Buckeye Local Classroom Teachers Association Education Scholarship, $500; Erwin, BLCTA Family Scholarship, $500; Walker, Buckeye Ruritans of New Alexandria Scholarship; Riley Angel, Boyd and Desiree Ruzek, the Dillonvale High School Alumni Association Scholarship, $750 each; and Shane Griffith, the Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Lion’s Club Scholarship, $1,000.

Brooklyn Hawthorne was presented with the Hesse Family Award for $100. A total of four $100 awards are given to a student in grades 9-12 who have the most improved grade-point average. Underclassmen were to be named at a later date.

Blackwell, Austin Blake and Sydney Snyder received the Indian Club Scholarship for $1,000 each; Erwin, the Anita Jackson Community Service Scholarship, $1,000; Griffith, Jefferson County Farm Bureau Scholarship, $500; Haiden Merrill, Kontogiannis Family Scholarship, $5,000; Dailey and Roset, Lady Panthers Basketball Parents Club Scholarship, $500; McHugh, Maderia Family Scholarship, $1,000; Dailey, Allison Emfield, Roset and Walker, Jessica Marie Mayle Memorial Volleyball Scholarship, $1,000 each; McDiffitt and Adison Muldrew, Bill Mazeroski Baseball Scholarship, $4,000 each; Boyd, Brad W. McFadden Memorial Scholarship, $500; McHugh, Josh Merriman Memorial Scholarship, $500; and Lena Anderson, the Russ Moran Memorial Scholarship, $1,000.

Blackwell, Blake, Boyd, Addie Erwin, Griffith and Brady Kalman were presented with the Mount Pleasant High School Alumni Association Scholarship, worth $1,000 each.

Hosenfeld was awarded the Dave and Judy Nemeti Memorial Scholarship, $200; Wyatt Luyster and Autumn Wharton, the Joseph Nieb “43” Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 each; Edgell, the John P. Nolan Wrestling Memorial Scholarship, $1,000; McHugh, North Elementary Mr. Robert Dalrymple Memorial Scholarship, $1,000; and Robert Carpenter, James Hess and Kalyn Young, OAPSE Scholarship, $150 each.

Ohio Eastern Endowed Scholarships were awarded to Cara Motto, Ohio University Eastern Scholarship, $625; and Desiree Ruzek, John and Marcelyn Shannon Scholarship, $1,263;

Griffith received the Ohio Valley BPW Scholarship for $500.

OHSAA Athletic Awards were presented to Griffith and Dailey as Scholar Athletes; Lance Driscoll for the Courageous Student Award; Kaleb Stang and Avah Williams, NFHS National Award of Excellence; Alyssa Dailey and Andrew Jones, the State Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity; and McDiffitt and Roset, the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award.

The Panther Grid Iron Club presented Griffith and Marek Hickman with $1,000 each, and McDiffitt, Roush and Brennin Takach with $250 each.

Scholarships were also presented to: Erwin, the Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe GOC Scholarship; Roush and Griffith, the Ron Pobolish Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 and $500, respectively; Hosenfeld, McHugh and Arielle Orban, the Charles Pugliese and Thelma Pugliese Charitable Foundation Scholarships, $1,000 each; Brice Kelley and Brayden Russell, Scouting America, Eagle Scout rank recognition; and Erwin and Roush, SHP Scholarships, $500 each.

Keira Panepucci received the MacKenzie Smith Memorial Cheer Scholarship; Riley Angel, Brice Kelley and Lexie Leach, the Sons of the American Legion Post 525 Adena Scholarship, $500 each; Dailey, the Sons of American Legion Post 573 Scholarship, $500; and Hosenfeld and Walker, the Special Friends Scholarship, $750 each.

Brady Kalman was presented with the Edward J. Stanko Memorial Scholarship for $250; McHugh and Walker, the Steven E. Strupe Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 each; Jailyn Cline, the Mike Tolliver Memorial Scholarship, $750; and Griffith, the VALES Scholarship, $750.

Blackwell and Dailey were the recipients of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4811 Scholarship for $500 each.

Anderson, McDiffitt, Snyder and Anne Vargo received the Warren Consolidated Alumni Scholarship for $400 each; Dailey, McDiffitt and Snyder, the Warren Township Lion’s Club Scholarship, $750 each; Brayden Russell, the Nora Webb-Winstead Memorial Scholarship, $1,000; and Orban, the Doyle R. Weldon Memorial Band Scholarship, $1,000.

Allison Jarrell, Muldrew and Orban received the Wells Township Haunted House Scholarship for $500 each.

Blackwell and Erwin, the Women’s Club of Adena Scholarship, $500 each; Anderson, West Virginia Northern Community College, full tuition; Roush and Erwin, Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters Scholarship, $500 each; Griffith, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau Scholarship; and Snyder and McDiffitt, Principal’s Awards.
