Retirees installed during meeting

WEIRTON — President Debra Marino opened the May 20 meeting of the Hancock County Association of Retired School Employees.
Held at Undo’s Restaurant in Weirton, 49 members and 10 guests gathered for a special afternoon presentation.
Marino introduced this year’s scholarship recipients, along with their family members and guidance counselors from Weir and Oak Glen high schools.
She welcomed each and voiced her concerns and best wishes, giving a brief synopsis of the previous year and thanking several members for facilitating the meeting.
Ed Chamberlain led in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Carolyn Allison led the group’s mission statement and Vice President Earlean Jones led in saying grace prior to the meal.

Following lunch, Membership Chairman Rita Orler and Melanie Donofe presented a memorial service for those members who died this year.
Scholarship Chairman Cathy Glass presented scholarships to Oak Glen students Kensington McConnachie and Georgia Wooley, and to Leanna Bissett from Weir High School. Each recipient plans to study education as their college career.
Under new business, Marino presented awards to officers and committee chairpersons, as she presided over the installation of new officers.
Officers include: Jones, vice president; Marino, past president; Donofe, president; Orler, treasurer and membership chair; and Elizabeth Pugh, secretary.
Rosalie Lebec announced the 50/50 drawing winner.
Mishel Robinson and Anna Mae Flatey presented the afternoon’s door prizes.
Donofe, in her new role as president, announced the association’s next meeting will be held Sept. 16 at the Immaculate Conception Church in New Cumberland. She then adjourned the meeting.
