Toronto Sunrise Seniors celebrate Thanksgiving
TORONTO — Members of the Toronto Sunrise Seniors met Nov. 8 at the Karaffa Recreation Center.
Those in attendance were welcomed by President Barbara Pritts. The meeting began with a moment of silence.
Members quietly stood in memory of longtime member Paul Zink, who recently died.
Co-chaplain Mary Lou Emery offered the blessing prior to the Thanksgiving feast that was served by those on the kitchen committee.
Pritts thanked the committee’s members who assisted with the meal, including Nancy Bodrog, Phyllis Smith, Paul Sherwood and Louie Nelson.
The committee provided table decorations in a Thanksgiving theme, as well.
Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, after which Secretary Karen Martin conducted roll call of officers and read the minutes of the Oct. 25 meeting. Treasurer Judy Sabol gave the financial report, which was filed for audit.
Social Secretary Mary Ann Landerfield announced the names of three members celebrating a November birthday, all of whom were serenaded by membership. She announced those serving on the kitchen committee for December will be Tracey Wade, Diana Hooper and Ruth White. The group’s Christmas dinner will take place Dec. 6. Officials noted this is not a normal meeting date and the dinner is to be held in the commons area the recreation center. The meal will be catered by Connie’s Corner in Chester.
Under the health report, one member was remembered.
Pritts reminded those in attendance the Dec. 3 bus trip to Amish Country will entail the bus leaving the Toronto High School stadium parking lot at 9 a.m. Those going on the trip should arrive no later than 8:45 a.m.
The toys members collected for the Toys for Toronto project were delivered to the Crossroads Church on North River Avenue by Paul Sherwood.
The activity for the evening was a game in which participants tried to match what they are thankful for with items Pritts believed to be important. Many thoughtful ideas emerged as letters of the word thankful were called out. Dave Devore and Candi Murphy matched four of the eight items and received a gift card. The 50/50 drawing winners were Lynn Miller and Patti Losey.
Following announcements, brag time and the joke of the evening, the meeting was adjourned.
Members then played bingo, with the winners including, Gloria Boley, Pritts, Sabol, Betty Mossor, Marlene Garrett, Brenda Fetty, Nelson, Emery and Mary Jane Tottka.
Laura Sheets was thanked for calling the numbers.
The next meeting will held at 5 p.m. today. Any Ohio resident age 55 or older is welcome to attend.
