Fall classes offered at Sycamore

STEUBENVILLE — The Sycamore Youth Center has announced its fall class schedule, with 64 classes that will inspire, educate and entertain children throughout the Ohio Valley.

Beginning Oct. 7, the center is offering a wide array of activities which cover all types of interests. From creative arts to life skills, from physical fitness to academic support, the fall lineup will include new classes never before offered at Sycamore.

Every class is free of charge and available to those in preschool through their senior year of high school.

Sycamore Executive Director Bobbyjon Bauman explained the center welcomes children from any school or homeschool to participate in the classes.

“Each class is taught by passionate instructors who are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment where your child can thrive,” Bauman stated.

The courses fill up quickly, Bauman noted, so anyone interested in signing their child up for a particular activity should do so as soon as possible.

A rocket science course will be taught to launch children into the world of physics and engineering by building and testing model rockets with instructor David Matthews. The Scout Reach class offers adventure in the Scouting America program, where participants can earn badges and learn life skills with Gordon Kalamacz. Kids Who Code is a class where children will dive into the world of coding and technology by performing fun, interactive projects with Maria Pfeifer.

A Spanish course will allow children to learn a new language in an engaging way, with Rebekah Cohen Morris instructing the class.

A guitar class will offer a way to strum your way to musical mastery, with a beginner guitar course taught by Grace Clum.

And the youth center’s favorite classes are returning, as well.

Bauman said the most popular classes from the last taught semester are making their return, including Carpentry and Life Skills, where children will build practical skills while crafting projects with Steve Forte; a martial arts class to boost confidence, discipline and physical fitness, being offered by Patrick LeMasters; and cosmetology, where students will explore hair, makeup and nails with hands-on training under the instruction of Renee Thompson.

Tumbling and dance will be taught by students from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, including Kristin Bove; and Zac Gordon and Jariel Henthorn will teach classical choir and folk dancing to encourage musical and cultural expression.

“We look forward to seeing your child discover new passions and make lasting memories this fall,” Bauman said.
