A Victorian Afternoon Tea party will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 4 at the Samuel Gill House Tea Room, located at 486 Union St. in Mount Pleasant. Food will be served, including an array of savory sandwiches, followed by a selection of scones and other sweets. In addition, a variety of hot teas and cold drinks will be served. Guests will be entertained by featured speaker Tom Haynes, whose grandparents owned and operated the Haynes boarding house, now known as the Samuel Gill House. Built in 1846, the home is presently owned by the Mount Pleasant Friends Church. Guests are encouraged to arrive in attire of dresses, a hat or fascinator, jewelry and gloves. A parasol would be the perfect finishing touch, officials noted. The cost is $20 per person. For reservations, call Annette Kendle at (740) 769-7805 or Haynes at (937) 733-7183. All proceeds benefit the Historical Society of Mount Pleasant. Members of the historical society include, from left, front, Lynn Barron, Anna Otto and Nina Sutherland, and back, Beverly Riddle, President Tom Haynes and Annette Kendle.
