Community cleanup set for Thursday

WINTERSVILLE — Cross Creek Township, in conjunction with the J.B. Green Team, will hold a community cleanup from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Township Garage, located at 1267 Cadiz Road.

Items that will be accepted include, large or bulk household junk items, such as non-freon appliances, furniture, gardening tools, grills, carpeting and large plastics toys.

Tires for standard automobiles and light trucks will be accepted; however, tire requirements must be under 54 inches in height and 16 inches in width, along with no heavy accumulation of water or dirt.

Items which will not be accepted during the community cleanup are mattresses and box springs, electronics, paint, construction and demolition materials and household batteries.

Officials stressed no garbage, liquids or hazardous waste materials will be accepted.

Edison Steak Fry and Auction

EAST SPRINGFIELD — The Edison Local Athletic Boosters will hold their annual Steak Fry and Auction at the Countryside in East Springfield on Saturday.

Dinner and silent auction bidding will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The live auction begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $50 and include steak, baked potato, salad and dessert. Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash, check or credit card. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward Edison Local athletes.

Prayer service set for Wellsburg

WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Kiwanis Club will team once again with Mayor Dan Dudley to observe the National Day of Prayer. The service will be held at noon on May 2 at the Wellsburg Town Square.

The club will provide a free lunch for those attending.

Church to observe Day of Prayer

TORONTO — Crossroads North River Church, Riverview United Methodist Church and Toronto First Methodist Church have teamed up and will observe the National Day of Prayer on May 2.

A prayer walk will take place at 6 p.m., followed by a service at 6:30 p.m., both of which take place in the area around the Gazebo Commons at North Third and Market streets.

Prayers will be offered for government leaders, members of the military, emergency first responders, the media and schools.

Bethany club received state awards

BETHANY — Helen Moren, president of the GFWC-WV Bethany Woman’s Club, represented the club at the GFWC state convention held at the Greenbrier Resort, where the group received numerous awards.

The club earned first place in 10 categories, including leadership. It received second place in nine categories and achieved one third-place award.

The club received honor and superior certificates for completing all of its requirements.

Moren is a past state president of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs.

Retired teachers to meet

TORONTO — The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association will meet May 14 at Riverview United Methodist Church in Toronto. The business meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Guest speakers will include June Logan and Becky Foster. Logan is the Ohio Retirement for Teachers Association liaison, who will provide updates, and Becky Foster, who will be speaking on aging.

Larry Coleman will have gift cards that will be presented to the top JCRTA volunteers of 2023.

This year, the group celebrates its 60th anniversary. In honor of the milestone, members are collecting 60 canned items for the Salvation Army as its monthly project.

Luncheon reservations are due by May 4. Those attending can contact Gina Judy. Checks can be made payable to JCRTA. Any active or retired teacher can join, officials noted.
