Community center to hold breakfast
UNIONPORT -- The Wayne Township Community Center in Unionport will hold a fundraising breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the center, located at 3281 county Road 39.
The menu will consist of the following breakfast meals: Pancakes and sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs and toast and drinks.
The cost is by donation only, officials stated.
Proceeds raised will go toward the upkeep of the center.
Humane foundation quarter auction
WEIRTON -- A quarter auction to benefit the Hancock County Humane Foundation will be held at noon on Saturday.
The event will take place at T. Kosciuszko Hall, located at 1801 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Bidding will begin at noon. Admission is $5. One paddle is included with admission. Each additional paddle will be $1.

Shrine Club to hold breakfast
WEIRTON -- The Northern Panhandle Shrine Club will hold its all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shrine Club building, located at 1221 Rice Blvd. in Weirton.
This will be the club's last breakfast fundraiser until October, officials noted.
The menu will consist of pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs. Beverages include coffee, orange juice, hot chocolate and hot tea.
The cost for breakfast is $7 for adults, $4 for those between the ages of 6 and 12 and free for children 5 and younger.
Men's weekend begins Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- Greater Zion Temple will host the men's weekend "Standing Together in Unity," this weekend.
A prayer breakfast will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday and morning worship begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, led by the Rev. Mark Boyd Sr. Both events take place at the church, located at 500 N. Fifth St.

Moving sale raising for scholarship
STEUBENVILLE -- A free moving sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 4246 Buchanan Road, located behind Kentucky Fried Chicken in Steubenville.
Items include tools, clothing, shoes and household items. A bedroom and living room set will be sold separately. Donations will be accepted. The money raised through donations will go toward the family's late daughter's scholarship fund.
Civil War roundtable to host speakers
WHEELING -- The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable has announced it will host author and Harpers Ferry ranger Jeff Evans during its August session.
The event will take place at the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling.
The Roundtable will host historian Rea Redd at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Cancer coalition to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Woman in Action Cancer Coalition, a community-based group of volunteers dedicated to fighting cancer in Jefferson County, will meet at noon May 7 at the Ohio State University Extension office, located at 500 Market St. in Suite 512.
The coalition meets the first Tuesday of each month, with Leslie Aftanas and Janet Sharp as its co-chairmen. They noted the group is looking for new members to join and invites them to attend a meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The coalition was established in 1994 through the Appalachia Leadership Initiative on Cancer. The purpose was to improve cancer awareness and control in Appalachia.
Officials explained the group works with various agencies to address cancer health disparities in Jefferson County, include the American Cancer Society, the Appalachian Community Cancer Network and the Breast and Cervical Cancer Project.
The coalition provides cancer education programs which focus on prevention, early detection, treatment and survivorship; and addresses the needs and gaps in medical coverage for community members, as they arise. It also holds fundraisers to provide assistance for cancer screening and procedures.
Franciscan choir to perform
STEUBENVILLE -- Franciscan University of Steubenville's Schola Cantorum Franciscana will perform a sacred music concert at 7 p.m. April 26 at Christ the King Chapel. A second performance will be given at 8 p.m. May 3 at Holy Trinity Church in Robinson Township.
The concert is titled "The God Bearer," and features a selection of sacred choral music framed through four seasonal hymns to the Blessed Virgin Mary: "Alma Redemptoris Mater," for Advent; "Ave Regina Caelorum," for Candlemas; "Regina Caeli," for Easter; and "Salve Regina," for Pentecost.
The performance will include works by 20th- and 21st-century composers, including Sergei Rachmaninoff, Benjamin Britten and Maurice Duruflé.
"Originally formed as a liturgical choir, the Schola Cantorum Franciscana has since expanded its mission to show to the Franciscan and local communities, the beauty of religious and liturgical art for the greater glory of God," said Vincent Rone, concert director and Franciscan adjunct professor of sacred music.
"We hope you will support this pursuit by your presence at 'The God Bearer' concert, as well as encourage others to attend and experience beautiful choral music," Rone said. The performances are free of charge and open to the public.
