Community center to hold dinner
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Community Center, located on county Road 39 next to the firehouse, will hold its April dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
The public is invited to attend the event.
The menu will consist of baked pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dessert and a drink. Dinners cost $11.

Walk marks Autism Acceptance Month
WEIRTON -- The Brooke-Hancock Family Resource Network and Disability Acceptance Coalition will hold an inclusive Storybook Walk in observance of Autism Acceptance Month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 1000 Colliers Way.
Held in collaboration with the West Virginia Autism Training Center, it will include interactive stations based on Dave Reisman's "Cows Can't Jump."
Booths with representatives from various agencies and programs will serve families, including those who have children with special needs.

Church to hold breakfast
BETHANY -- Bethany Memorial Church will hold a pancake-sausage breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. April 20.
The cost is $10.
Quarter auction to benefit fair
WELLSBURG -- A quarter auction to benefit the Brooke County Fair will be held Sunday at the Wellsburg Moose Lodge.
Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Bidding will begin at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes one paddle. Each additional paddle will be $1.
Tickets can be purchased at the Brooke Hills Park Clubhouse, Brookecountyfair.com or through any member of the Brooke County Fair Committee.

The fair will return to Brooke Hills Park Sept. 13-15.

Child Abuse Awareness Month vigil
STEUBENVILLE -- A Child's Place Court-Appointed Special Advocates will hold its Light of Hope candlelight vigil in observance of Child Abuse Awareness Month, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 24 at Historic Fort Steuben.
Attendees may sponsor luminaria to support efforts by the nonprofit organization to represent children involved in abuse and neglect cases in Brooke, Hancock and Jefferson counties.
Since it was established in Brooke and Hancock counties in 2000, A Child's Place CASA has represented 1,082 children. It expanded to include Jefferson County in 2015.
It currently serves 129 children in the three counties, but 87 others could still be served.

Retirees collect for nursing homes
WEIRTON -- Steubenville City Schools Retirees met for lunch March 14 at Giovannni's Restaurant in Weirton.
A collection was taken for Becky Foster's work as an ombudsman in local nursing homes.
The collection will continue, as items are still needed. Among the products being sought are Kleenex, tooth brushes, toothpaste, body sprays, deodorant and soap.
In addition to toiletries, word puzzles and magazines would be appreciated.
Items will be collected at the group's next luncheon, scheduled to take place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Capraro's Restaurant and Lounge in Hopedale.
The donations will be given to Foster during the May 9 luncheon.
Camera club announces top-finishers
WINTERSVILLE -- The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club announced its top finishers in the March competition. The theme was "backlighting."
Theme category finishers included, Dennis Jones, first; Barb Momyer, second; and Sue Adey, third.
Open category finishers were, Adey, first; Eric Patterson, second; and John Hanish, third.
In the category of special effects, top-finishers included, John Newlin and Eric Patterson, first-place tie; Michelle Stevens, second; and Diane Bannister, third.
The club welcomes anyone with an interest in photography to attend a meeting.
Attendees can use either a camera or cell phone to take photos, officials noted.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, located at 1085 Canton Road in Wintersville. Participants will meet in the lower level's social hall.
