Evening story hour offered
WELLSBURG -- Kim Harless will lead an Explore and Learn story hour with hands-on activities at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Brooke County Public Library.

Church Women United to hold meeting
WEIRTON -- Church Women United will hold a planning meeting at 11 a.m. Friday at the Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly.
Library to screen musical
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show the PG-13 musical "The Color Purple," based on the Alice Walker novel, at noon Friday.

Safety and resource fair set
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Family Resource Center will hold a safety and resource fair for families in observance of Child Abuse Awareness Month.
Various groups will offer useful information to families, including mental health issues and services available for children with special needs. The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday outside the Bruin Bridge School (formerly Wellsburg Middle School.) Brooke Primary School will have a similar event that day from noon to 2 p.m.
Representatives of the Wellsburg Police Department, Brooke County Emergency Medical Services and West Virginia Fire Marshal's Office will be on hand to share summer safety tips, along with other information. Through a donation from the Wellsburg Kiwanis Club and other support, drawings will be held for bicycles, helmets and other prizes.
Walk marks Autism Acceptance Month
WEIRTON -- The Brooke-Hancock Family Resource Network and Disability Acceptance Coalition will hold an inclusive Storybook Walk in observance of Autism Acceptance Month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 13 at 1000 Colliers Way.
Held in collaboration with the West Virginia Autism Training Center, the event will include interactive stations based on Dave Reisman's "Cows Can't Jump." There will be booths with representatives from various agencies and programs that serve families -- including those with children with special needs. Space is still available for such groups. Legion to hold flea market
WEIRTON -- The Weirton American Legion Post 10, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., will hold a flea market from 8 a.m. to 1p.m. April 13 at the post.
Organizers stated approximately 20 tables will be in use with various items for everyone, including homemade baked goods, vintage items, Avon, clocks and tents. Several sale items, along with many bargains will be available.
Made-to-order breakfast will be offered from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The meal includes two pancakes, two sausages and coffee or water for $4.
