Sunrise seniors celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

TORONTO -- The Toronto Sunrise Seniors welcomed new member Rita Brooks to its March 8 meeting held at the Karaffa Recreation Complex.

President Barbara Pritts then welcomed all members in attendance and gave the blessing for the covered-dish meal.

Following dinner, members recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Members of the kitchen committee consisting of Don and Barbara Pritts, Lynn Miller, Nancy Bodrog, Mary Ann Landerfield and Joe and Sandi Radvansky were thanked for their service and for the St. Patrick's Day decorations.

Secretary Laura Sheets conducted the roll call of officers.

Pritts thanked Mayor John Parker and the city of Toronto for the donation to help with food and travel for 2024-25.

Social Secretary Marlene Garrett announced those with March birthdays and congratulated Rex and Betty Mossor on the celebration of 61 years of marriage.

She announced the April kitchen committee will include members Lucy Timko, Dorothy Pavelka, Joyce Gribben, Carol Rogers and Shirley Wilson.

Two members were mentioned during the health report.

Information was posted about two upcoming summer trips. Interested members will travel to Midland to the Lincoln School of Performing Arts to see "Titanic, the Musical," on June 23. On Aug. 21, the group will travel to the Ohio Star Theater in Amish Country to see "Ruth," and enjoy a luncheon buffet at the Dutch Valley Restaurant.

Non-members are welcome to attend.

Mary Murphy was recognized as member of the month and presented with a gift certificate.

Members then participated in a game entitled "Things That Remind Us of Spring," in which the members tried to identify the items given only the first letter of each word. Gribben was the winner.

Bonnie Wilson and Frank Marino were the winners of the 50/50 drawing.

It was announced that First Methodist Church in Toronto is planning a special service on Maundy Thursday, and all are invited to attend the 7 p.m. service.

Following brag time, the meeting adjourned.

Members enjoyed playing bingo. Joe Radvansky called the numbers.

Winners included Miller, Marino, Gribben, Don Pritts, Sandi Radvansky, Louie Nelson, Murphy, Landerfield, Nancy Ramsey, Dave DeVore, Mossor and Marsha McConnell.

Any senior aged 55 or older and a resident of Ohio is welcome to attend.
