MINGO JUNCTION -- Those involved in the St. Agnes Catholic Woman's Club held an Advent/Christmas gathering Dec. 12. The festivities began with dinner. The main entree was catered, with chicken provided by Debbie Riccardo.
Participating members provided a variety of side dishes and desserts toward the menu. President Theresa Madden thanked everyone for the good food, including Mickey Barcalow, who made the gingerbread girls and guy for favors. She thanked Babe DiCarlo for providing the centerpieces.
An abbreviated business meeting was held, with the leadership commission announcing those with December birthdays. Happy birthday was sung and a gift was presented to the following, Eileen Moody, Chery Mayle, Karen DellaPenna, Michelle Dickey and Joann Babela.
Madden announced there will be a surprise taking place at the January meeting. Hostesses will be Jean Mazik, Kathy Flippo and Barcalow. The door prize curator will be Flippo.
Reports were given on projects which have been completed. Members touched on the club's pumpkin roll sale, the Thanksgiving treats for students at Bishop John King Mussio School and gifts for children at Mingo Junction's annual Light-Up Night.
Joanne Raha made a suggestion to fellow members, asking if they would be interested in donating supplies for the Little Flowers, a group for girls directed by Mary Ward.
Recommended items included, construction paper, pens, pencils, markers, colored pencils, crayons and little books. Members were asked to bring in their donation at the January meeting.
The Rev. James Dunfee announced confirmation will take place Jan. 21 -- the feast of St. Agnes.
Five children will be receiving the sacrament, officials said. There will be a brunch following Mass, with the parish providing the meat and parishioners providing the covered dishes. A sign-up sheet is available.
Those volunteering for the event include, Paula Diorio, Riccardo, Raha, Madden, Karen Giuliani, Mary Kay See, Rose Walsh and Jeannette Panebianco.
Dunfee announced the fundraising campaign has begun for building at BJKM. He noted this is the only Catholic grade school in the county, and the club needs to show its support. He encouraged the club and others to donate whatever possible toward the campaign.
Madden announced the next meeting will be held Tuesday.
Following the closing prayer, members chose a numbered bulb and gathered to take part in the club's white elephant activity.
