Center to hold spaghetti dinner
UNIONPORT -- A spaghetti and meatball dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Wayne Township Community Center in Unionport. The meal includes salad, bread, dessert and a drink. The cost is $12, with all proceeds benefiting the upkeep of the center.
UMWA meeting set for Feb. 3
HOPEDALE -- The United Mine Workers of America, Local 1304, will hold a regular meeting at the Hopedale American Legion in Hopedale on Feb. 3.
Breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
Legion to host flea market
WEIRTON -- The Weirton American Legion Post 10, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., will hold an indoor flea market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 10. Organizers stated there will be several tables with various items, including many bargains.
In addition to homemade baked goods and vintage items, breakfast will be served at the cost of $4. The meal includes two pancakes, two sausages and coffee or water for $4.
Take Your Child to the Library Day
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will be celebrating Take Your Child to the Library Day. The event will include a variety of activities, officials stated. Activities will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 3.
Visitors to the library's River Room will find stations with crafts, coloring, Legos and other science, technology, engineering, art and math-related activities. Children can try using a 3-D pen in the Tutor Room, play with toys and games in the Children's Room or watch a movie in the Elmer Vincent Meeting Room. There will be a special book display in the Art Gallery and a free book and bookmark for each young visitor. Those who haven't been to the library in a while are especially encouraged to stop by and see the wide range of materials available inside, officials said. For information, call (304) 737-1551.
Players invited to mah jongg
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library has added sessions of mah jongg, a tile-based game popular in many parts of Asia, to its many free activities. Those interested in playing or learning the game should visit from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Friday. Mah jongg lovers are welcome to bring their own tiles.
Senior fitness classes offered
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library is offering Geri-Fit, a 45-minute strength training class for older adults.
Participants start lifting light weights, usually while seated, and can work at their own pace. They should bring a set of light dumbbells, a stretch band and water to drink. The video fitness classes are held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Follansbee Library, located at 844 Main St., and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Brooke County Library, located at 945 Main St.

Evening story hour set

Special play offered for pre-schoolers
WELLSBURG -- Parents and guardians of children age 6 years of age and younger are invited to bring their children to the Brooke County Public Library between 10:30 a.m. and noon each Saturday.
The children will be given the opportunity to use toys and games designed to promote hand-eye coordination, as well as to receive a basic understanding of science, engineering, art and math concepts. Parents are encouraged to assist the children with the toys, which are set up and taken down by a volunteer.
