Wintersville Woman’s Club change vice president by-law

WINTERSVILLE -- The Wintersville Woman's Club met Nov. 16 at St. Florian Hall, with President Iris Craig presiding. There were 22 members and 10 guests in attendance.

The afternoon's program featured line dancing by the local group, the Fun Time Dancers, who presented some of their routines under the leadership of Emma Anderson. Marilyn Crew provided the meditation and grace prior to the hall's luncheon.

The business portion of the meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and Club Collect, led by Cheryl Taylor. Roll call was taken by Michalene King, who posed the question to members, "Did you ever take dancing lessons?" The women went around the room and responded to King's question, with many of them noting that they had.

Anderson grabbed the hands of many in attendance and had them try out the line dancing with her and those in the Fun Time Dancers.

The minutes of the Oct. 19 meeting were approved as written and the treasury report was given by Treasurer Karen Hill.

Corresponding Secretary Aimee Jaros reported that she sent out several pieces of correspondence to members during the month, including, November birthday cards, get-well cards, thinking-of-you cards and a sympathy card.

Jaros read thank-you letters from the Friendship Room for the club's donation last month. She read a thank-you note from Michelle Bauer, an employee at the Wintersville Post Office, for the flowers and decorations the environment committee placed in front of the building.

Under committee reports, Craig spoke on a change in the by-laws regarding the club going from two vice presidents to one.

Members were required to cast a vote as to whether they approved having just one vice president.

Parliamentarian Marjean Sizemore commented other clubs in Ohio have only one vice president, adding, "The duties we have for two vice presidents can be done by one vice president."

A vote was taken by those in attendance and passed by a majority ruling in favor of the change in the by-laws.

Cheryl Taylor was then installed as the club's sole vice president by past President Pat Ketzell and Sizemore.

Regarding the nominating committee, Craig asked if there were three members who would volunteer to serve on the nominating committee in order to assist in the nomination of officers for the two-year period of 2024-26.

Darlene Snider, Judy Ostrowsky and Pat Ketzell volunteered. They will have the list of nominees at the January meeting, Craig noted.

Judy Weaver reported on education and libraries, saying she gave a check to the new teacher the club is supporting.

Weaver will report on the supplies purchased when she receives the list, she said.

Karen Hill reported on environment, saying the post office's flower bed has been cleaned for the winter. The environment committee had placed purple pumpkins at the site in October for domestic violence month and American flags for Veterans Day.

Hill stated three members took part in the Trunk-or-Treat event at the School of Bright Promise's parking area on Oct. 20. There were approximately 140 people who received treats, she said. She then reported on taking 12 bags and fuzzy blankets to A Caring Place in honor of Advocate for Children Week.

Craig reported she has not been able to connect with Carolyn Glaub to see if she will be able to be a part of the December meeting's program. It was decided that if that program is not available, members will sing Christmas carols and read Christmas poems.

Taylor reported she will collect and then inventory all the supplies which were donated for Martha Manor. She will then deliver them as a project to recognize domestic violence.

The November meeting entailed Craig addressing the club about the Dec. 3 Holiday Splendor event, which is the club's largest fundraiser of the year. She discussed setting up and having as many participants volunteering as possible.

The event included Hill and Kasey Doughy meeting and developing a layout for the room. Lists for the various duties required were circulated and members signed up for various jobs.
