Church donates to area nonprofits
STEUBENVILLE– Parishioners of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church collected food donations for the holidays for distribution to those in need. Because church members reside throughout the Tri-State Area, the food was donated to the Salvation Army in Wellsburg, Bay 6 in Mingo Junction and the Bread Basket in Weirton. Clothing items were donated to the Urban Mission’s men and women shelters.
Church members donated to Lifeline Inc for linens and bedding for the Spomenak Women’s Shelter in Serbia.
Veterans Service Commission to meet
STEUBENVILLE — The regular monthly meeting of the Veterans Service Commission of Jefferson County will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will take place at 500 Market St., Suite 310. All veterans and interested parties are welcome to attend, officials stated.
Wreath demonstration at meeting
WEIRTON — A demonstration on how to design a Christmas wreath and centerpiece will be given during the upcoming meeting of the Disciples Women of Weirton at the First Christian Church. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the lower level of the church, located at 3252 Main St.
The demonstrator will be Roberta Kearns Taylor, a floral designer at McCauslen Any Occasion Florist in Weirton. President Janet Rymer will conduct the meeting. Members are asked to donate children’s throws for the youth who are served by the Weirton Christian Center. Refreshments will be served during the meeting.
St. John Altar and Rosary soup sale
WEIRTON — St. John Altar and Rosary will hold its monthly soup, sandwich and dessert sale at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The sale will continue until the food is sold out.
Orders may be placed after 11 a.m. by calling (304) 737-8051.
All food is donated and prepared by the ladies of the Parish.
The next scheduled lunch will take place in March. Those at St. John Altar and Rosary stated they appreciate those who have supported their efforts throughout the past year.
Richmond to hold parade
RICHMOND — Richmond’s second-annual village Christmas parade will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Participants will line up at Hardy Field on Park Street at 4:30 p.m. and continue through town, ending at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home.
There will be pre-parade festivities from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Commons Gazebo on Main Street near Richmond Methodist Church with a toy vendor and T-shirt vendor; free bags and glow sticks for children to collect candy from the parade; free hot chocolate, cookies and hot dogs; and pictures with the Grinch.
The Richmond Methodist Church fellowship hall will be the site of free crafts for children to do from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Festival in the Woods will host pictures with Santa and a hay ride for children after the parade at the shelter house at Richmond Park.
Festival in the Woods is continuing its Christmas Magic lighting attraction through the park on Fridays and Saturdays that includes vendors in the new shelter house.
