STEUBENVILLE -- Steubenville City Schools will transform one of its yellow rides into a veritable Santa's sleigh for its eighth-annual Stuff the Bus program.
Organizers are gathering new, unwrapped toys and items for ages 3-18 and plan to begin stuffing the bus outside Wells Academy on Nov. 28 at 9:30 a.m. Students will load items at the school before the bus moves on to Garfield East, McKinley STEM Academy, Harding Middle School, Pugliese West and community outreach site The Laurels of Steubenville.
District Transition Coordinator Jaclyn Walters said it will help hundreds of kids have a brighter season.
"The district and community leaders will gather in front of Wells Academy to begin stuffing the bus, which will then travel to all schools across the district with the last stop at the Laurels," said Walters. "Approximately 100 families will be helped and we average more than 200 children."
Among gifts being sought are learning toys, gingerbread houses, blankets, socks, makeup sets, sport balls, personal hygiene sets, puzzles, board games, ear buds, phone chargers, books, ball caps and Big Red apparel. Walters hopes to provide every child with a blanket and pillow and a trove of gifts to bolster family engagement.
"We also provide every family with a gingerbread house, a Christmas theme book, Christmas tablecloth and other family gathering activities," she said.
