Holiday Splendor set for Sunday

WINTERSVILLE -- Those involved with the Wintersville Woman's Club have been planning and preparing for their annual Holiday Splendor Luncheon and Style Show.

This year will mark the 21st year the fundraiser has been held, according to club officials. Proceeds raised will go toward supporting education. The woman's club has already generated thousands of dollars in support of local education, funding scholarships and other club projects.

The event is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the St. Florian Event Center, located at 286 Luray Drive in Wintersville. Shopping will begin at this time, followed by a luncheon at 1 p.m. The meal will consist of stuffed chicken, scalloped potatoes, salad, bread and chocolate mousse cake. Shopping will resume after the meal, until 4 p.m.

The event itself is a Christmas-time staple, according to President Iris Craig. The afternoon will consist of food, fun, shopping, prizes and fashions courtesy of a style show provided by style show host, Cato's.

All attendees, excluding club members, will be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance at winning a jewelry prize courtesy of Chris and Chip Warren of Discovery Jewelers.

The Warrens have donated to the event every year since its inception, according to club officials, who expressed their appreciation as to their generosity.

Craig stated this year's Holiday Splendor event is expected to be better than past years.

"We're really looking forward to a great turnout," Craig stated. "Our prizes this year are bigger and better than ever."

She expressed her appreciation to those local businesses which contributed to donating toward the event.

As far as the fundraising aspect, Holiday Splendor has made four scholarships possible to area students, awarding two $1,000 scholarships and two $500 ones, annually.

Craig said Holiday Splendor, along with other community service projects the organization participates in, is what makes it possible for the club to fund its scholarships, among other contributions made by members.

Several vendors will be in attendance at St. Florian, including those selling baked goods, seasonal items and jewelry.

Donations from local merchants have made it possible for the club to award several door prizes in addition to its annual Chinese auction.

Whether donations are in the form of gift cards or a gift basket, club members say they are thankful for the businesses' kindness and graciousness.

The event will include the opportunity for women to bond, enjoying an afternoon of shopping, watching a style show consisting of club members serving as models for the clothing and enjoying each other's company during lunch.
