A hero’s quilt of valor
The First Christian Church in Weirton held a special presentation earlier this month, as Lisa Stewart, above, who serves with the Quilts of Valor Foundation, wrapped veteran Rich Blanc in a quilt made for him. The quilt is to honor him for his service, acknowledge freedom isn’t free and to offer him comfort. Blanc served with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam from 1968-69, earning the rank of Sgt. E5 and being awarded two Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and an Air Medal. During the presentation, below, Stewart was surrounded by family members. Those present included, from left, grandsons Mason and Max Klink; Blanc; his wife, Karen; son, Dennis Blanc; and daughter, Deena Klink.
