Toronto Seniors thank member for kindnesses

TORONTO -- Toronto Seniors President Judy Bickler called the September meeting of the group to order, welcoming those in attendance to a sunflower-themed gathering at the Karaffa Recreation Center.

Bickler began by honoring Ed Zeigler, member of the month, for good deeds.

Speaking on behalf of members, Bickler expressed the club's thoughts for its appreciation, saying,

"We, the Toronto Seniors Club, cannot thank you enough for your generosity and kindness in awarding us the grant money for 2023 which has opened the doors of travel opportunities for us to explore parts of the USA," she said.

"Many of us would not be able to take advantage of trips outside of our area and the many activities offered to us because of financial limits as we are all on fixed incomes," she continued.

"However, because of the monies given to us, 50 of us recently were able to travel to Pigeon Forge in Tennessee, to see God's beautiful Smokey Mountains, attend numerous shows and share experiences."

"We thank you for enabling us to expand our horizons, which will be part of our conversations and memories forever," she stated.

"We also want you to know that we also 'pay it forward' from our club fundraisers and dues to the firemen, police, EMTs and local food banks because of our community outreach program. We enjoy giving as well as receiving," she concluded.

Bickler stated the tour director or assistant director can and will remove disruptive individuals from bus tours or during meetings.

The statement was put into the group's bylaws, it was noted.

Members thanked for their assistance included the kitchen committee of Rosemary Bonofine, Cheryl Adams, Chuck Barker, Jean Barker, Sheryl Boyd, Marianne Volsky, Janet Boyuk, Marilyn Crew, Bonnie Ewing and Lynette Pearce.

Arlene Obertance led the group in prayer of thanks and then led in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Social Secretary Peggy Ziarko named all members birthdays and anniversaries for September.

The treasurer's report was given by Patty Smith. The report was approved. Secretary Peggy Miller reported on the previous meeting and conducted roll call.

It was announced dinner checks are to be mailed to Smith by the first week of the month.

Thanks was given to member callers, including Mary Kay Petras, Smith, Bobbie Koltz, Lisa Rex, Bonofide, Jean Cline, Carole Eddy, and Ziarko.

It was announced a trip to Amish Country would be held Thursday.

Christmas dinner will take place at 5 p.m. Dec. 15. The location will be provided.

Bingo winners were Linda Livingstone, first game; Virginia Dafoe, second game; Barbara Losey, third game; and Mary Ann Whalen, fourth game.

The 50/50 rowing was won by Deanne Starr. The big basket gift was won by Linda Livingstone.

Dan Ciotti received the door prize.
