STEUBENVILLE -- John Paul Von Arx, coordinator of worship at Franciscan University of Steubenville, has released a music video for his original song "He's Different" to raise awareness of people with Down Syndrome and show the beauty of life.
"Far too often, there is a stigma surrounding people with special needs," Von Arx said.
Through both the song and music video, he wants to "bring hope to parents expecting a baby with Down Syndrome and express solidarity with families of people with special needs."
"He's Different" is written about Von Arx's youngest brother, Sam, who has Down syndrome.
It tells the story of how the two brothers are different -- and how Sam views life with joy and simplicity and loves people unconditionally. This difference should be celebrated, said Von Arx.
"My brother Sam is the most peaceful, free person I know. I am thankful he is different from me, and I am so grateful I get to share his story," he said. "In doing so, I hope to share other families' stories of having loved ones with special needs."
The music video's October release coincides with both Down Syndrome Awareness Month and Respect Life Month, bringing awareness to the importance of upholding the dignity of all human life.
In addition to serving as coordinator of worship at Franciscan University, Von Arx is a country artist and a worship leader for the Steubenville Youth Conferences and Steubenville Parish Missions, as well as for other parish and diocesan events across the country.
