Weir Class of '67 to meet
WEIRTON -- The Weir High Class of 1967 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Applebee's Bar and Grill, located at 389 John Scott Highway, Steubenville. All classmates and their spouses are welcome to attend.
Auxiliary to hold disables veterans
STEUBENVILLE -- The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 33, will be hosting a Halloween party at 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at its post, located at 808 N. Fifth St.
Costumes are optional, however, prizes will awarded.
The menu will consist of soups, sandwiches, salads and desserts. Music will be provided by disc jockey Dan. The party is open to all members and their guest. The cost is $12.
The auxiliary is planning to host its annual Christmas party for disabled veterans once again. This will be the first time since the COVID pandemic that the party will take place. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 7. The auxiliary invited nine local nursing homes to take part. Th veterans will receive a luncheon, a visit from area school children and a ukulele group will entertain prior to handing out gifts.
Tri-State Marine Auxiliary meets
WEIRTON -- The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held its monthly meeting Oct. 9.
President Shirley Brecht open the meeting, followed by a prayer given by Chaplain Mary Ann Smith. Those on the club's sick list was announced by Marcy Spano. She noted she sent a get-well card to a club auxiliary member in need.
The pledge to the flag was led by Brecht. Vice President Darlene Kemp announced roll call.
The secretary's report was given by Spano, after which it was approved as read.
The treasurer's report was given by Brecht and approved by those in attendance.
Brecht gave the auxiliary a birthday card to sign for its adopted veteran.
It was announced the club's Christmas party will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 4 at Giovanni's Restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton.
On Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, members will present their wreath. The Marine Ball is held that day as well, it was noted. The event begins at 5 p.m. at Undo's in Weirton.
Refreshments for the evening were vegetable soup, green beans, carrot cake and soda.
Brecht adjourned the meeting, announcing the next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at the VFW Hall in Weirton.
Church to present Wheeling symphony
WEIRTON -- The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra's brass quintet will be performing at the Cove Presbyterian Church.
The event is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at the church, located at 3404 Main St., Weirton.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public. There will be free-will donations accepted that will go toward benefitting the Weirton Christian Center.
It will be an afternoon of patriotic and holiday music, according to organizers.
